What I do!

I am blessed to have an occupation that allows me time off during summer to enjoy the fruits of my labor! There are more benefits than that though!

I began teaching Precision Machining and Entrepreneurship in 1992 at Deleware JVS. After 2 years there I moved to Southeast Career Center beginning my time with Columbus City Schools. Five years later I was staff reduced and spent a year at Northwest Career Center managing a Computer Based Training lab for all of the students in the bulding. Still with CCS I am now a proud staff member at Centennial High School (link)

Centennial is one of the top rated high schools not only in Columbus but also in the country. As part of the Business / Technology Education department I frequently teach most Microsoft office applications (except Word) including Front Page. I use Adobe Dreamweaver to maintain our website which is student driven. For the majority of my day I provide technical support including maintaining our website, our attendance databse, creating / updating other ACCESS databases for graduation, awards ceremonies and other occasions. Though we no longer have these classes I have also taught Cisco IT essentials (Cisco Curriculum Authorized Instructor), Advanced placement Java, C++, and MS Visual Basic. A Java class is returning for next year!

In each of the buildings I have worked in since I began teaching I have worked with some incredibly skilled, talented, educated, and devoted professionals at all levels who consistently make huge personal sacrifices in support of their students.

At nights during the school year I teach in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Columbus State Community College (CSCC). Teaching here since 1993 I have taught Cad 1 (Autocad), Numerical Control, Machine Tools, Programming for Technicians (Visual Basic), Computer Assisted Manufacturing (Feature Cam), and Machine Design.

Prior to teaching I spent eighteen years in manufacturing. A machinist by trade I have worked at all levels in industry from sweeping floors to set-up and operation of most machine tools available whether CNC or manual, to engineering and supervision in a variety of shops.

A few of the companies I have worked for include Wean United, Rockwell International, Commercial Intertech, and some smaller local shops during slow times in the industry.

Equipment I have made parts for, machines I have built or played a part in their design, come from a variety of areas including; steel processing, glass manufacturing, the aerospace, electronic, packaging, mining, rubber, and automotive industries.

My favorite part of teaching? When students return after graduation to let me know that they are using skills I had a part in teaching them and to say thanks! 'Make a difference.. one child at a time!'
